Power station and other industrial natural draft cooling tower chimneys have long been associated with cloud formation. Often visible plumes of condensing steam are a prelude to rainfall. GSE has designed a cooling tower which maximizes on this known attribute of these structures. These towers are designed to propel maximum volumes of warm saturated air, (which is lighter and warmer that the surrounding air and is therefore extremely buoyant), just beyond the cloud condensation level. The units are totally traffic powered, with the basic energy resources of pumped water, compressed air, heat, and vacuum are derived from nearby heavy traffic flows via GSE R-series devices. These GSE vortex towers require a minimal footprint (2-4 acres), low maintenance, and can be constructed using local contractors and materials. (Engineered generate 10-20K gallons of water per minute with 1110 ft per sec. updraft) They are similar in scale to already community accepted wind turbines, and the construction costs are similar. The units can be designed to support regional biodiversity by building nesting features into the chimney walls. ![]() |
